A downloadable game for Windows

TANGENT is a minimalist momentum platformer where you control a marble that can grapple, jump, and pump to build speed.

I designed TANGENT to be easy to pick up and hard to master.

As someone who loves speed runs and physics-based games, I set out to make a challenging, marathon style, climb-to-the-top game like Celeste, Getting Over It With Benny Foddy, Pogostuck, etc. Along the way, I ended up with a more satisfying, short burst speed run game akin to Trackmania where the player beats a par time on many short stages (that being said, there's a "Marathon Stage" at the end of each difficulty that scratches the long form speedrun itch).

I also wanted the audio to be unique. I'm a musician-turned-game developer, and wanted to tie in my love for music with the games sound, so the marble's speed changes the energy of the music. Every other sound effect fits in with the overall music track as well (grapple, countdown, pump). This is my favorite part of the game, and I think it really makes TANGENT stand out.

I'm really happy with how it turned out, and I'm hoping to continue improving it from here.

I'll be releasing on Steam soon, and hopefully iOS soon after that!

Demo Contents

  • 5 Beginner Stages to test your timing and flow, 1 Expert Stage to show real difficulty

  • 14 Cosmetic Marble Shells (I'm considering making these more than just cosmetic)

Planned for Full Release

  • 50+ stages across multiple difficulties.

  • Hazards, and advanced movement tricks.

  • Online leaderboards

  • Stage Designer where players can create their own stages

Controls

  • Left Mouse: Grapple / Release

  • Spacebar: Pump (while attached) / Jump (on ground)

  • Shift + R: Restart instantly (R for soft restart)

Developer Note

Please give me any and all feedback, recommendations, glitch reports, etc. This is the demo/proof of concept, and the full game is still in the works (about 80% done).

TANGENT is a solo-developed project built with Unity.
AI-assisted tools were used occasionally to help generate or refine code, speeding up parts of the development process — all final gameplay, design, and polish decisions were made by hand.

Thanks for playing :)
